I went to a local school yesterday to talk about illustration. They have been looking at how to write their own stories, so went in to give them some ideas about how to illustrate stories. It was lovely to work with the children and get them excited about books and drawing, using their imagination.
I begun by doing a 15 minute presentation about what illustration is and I discussed a few famous illustrators and characters that they would relate to. Then I talked a little about what I want to do and then i set them a task to illustrate a passage I wrote especially. It read:
"There once was a farm.
But this wasn’t an ordinary farm. The cows had stripes and the pigs were woolly. The ducks were the size of horses and the horses were the size of ducks. An elephant lived in the meadow and a whale bathed in the pond.
What an extraordinary farm!"
Their responce was excellent and it even ave me ideas for some characters. Great experience. Thank you to everyone at Talavera Junior school for asking me to help!"There once was a farm.
